Orlando Museum of Art 1st Thursday Event

CFW was invited to demonstrate and show our work during the November 2007 1st Thursday event at the Orlando Museum of Art. Despite the gloomy weather, CFW was able to show members works and demonstrate the art of woodturning to approximately 400 people during the evening. Over 30 members submitted pieces to display and several members volunteered to turn outside in the courtyard. Thanks to all who helped organize this event.

Ornament Workshop, September 2007

Sonya and Dave Barriger led a day long workshop on Marbling. A great turnout by CFW Members led to a wonderful day experimenting and dipping ornaments and seeing the varied results. Thanks to Dave and Sonya for their time and effort despite the long trip they faced afterwards and to Richard as always for his hospitality and use of his shop.

Barriger Bash 2007

Dave and Sonya Barriger held their annual Barriger Bash on February 17 to coincide with Alan and Mary Lacer's visit. The day started out a brisk Florida morning, the the warmth of the wood stove, coal forge, and the pot of coffee got us all going. A most gracious Alan Lacer spent the day helping most members their make their hook tools, and then ground the ends for us. Former CFW Member Mike Allen made the trip down from Georgia with all of his welding equipment to help out with the days activities as well. Dave also had his treadle lathe set up for folks to try out.

2006 Holiday Dinner and Super Show

CFW held their annual Holiday Dinner and Super Show event December 21st. Many members and their families spent the evening in great company and were able to review the best works of our members from 2006. There were some really amazing pieces on display. After dinner Chapter President Bob Walker addressed the membership and recapped this last year for CFW. Special thanks were given to various members for their devotion and dedication to CFW, including and by no means limited to the following: Richard Elenberger for the use of his spacious wood shop for several hands-on workshops; Al and Sherry Hockenbery for the use of their shop for several visiting demonstrators and hands-on workshops; Scott Carrol and the entire Woodcraft Orlando staff for the use of the meeting room and their support of CFW; The Staff at Craft Supplies USA for their continued support of CFW; David Barriger for his service to CFW and to Dave and Sonya for the organization of the Holiday Event. Door prizes were provided to CFW for the event and were handed out by President Bob Walker and Member-at-Large Marv Murray.
